BJP’s eighth slate of eleven candidates: Sushil Kumar Rinky, a Jalandhar native who recently left the AAP to join the BJP, has been put forward.
Days after joining the BJP, Taranjit Singh Sandhu, a former Indian ambassador to the US, would contest in the Lok Sabha election of 2024 from Amritsar. The eighth list of candidates, which includes names from 11 constituencies in West Bengal, Punjab, and Odisha, was revealed by the BJP on Saturday. Preneet Kaur, the wife of former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh and a recent party newcomer, won the ticket from Patiala, the Congress constituency she represented. The Bollywood star Sunny Deol, who gained notoriety for his sporadic attendance at Parliament after being elected as a Gurdaspur MP, has been removed. In its place, Dinesh Singh Babbu has been nominated from the constituency.
In Odisha, the BJP fielded six-time MP Bhartruhari Mahtab from Cuttack and would run alone in the election without the backing of the BJD. Recently, Mahtav left the BJD to join the BJP.
The grandson of the late Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, three-time Congress member Ravneet Singh Bittu, will run from Ludhiana, while Sushil Kumar Rinku, who just quit the AAP, has been nominated from Jalandhar.
