Authorities in Vadodara, Gujarat, claimed on Sunday that a student from Rajasthan committed himself by jumping from the sixth story of a university building on campus.
On Saturday night, something happened on the Parul University campus. An inquiry is under progress and the cause of the suicide remains unknown.
Vadodara’s Parul University has been in the center of a number of debates lately. The university came under fire for racial tensions in February after it was claimed that African students participating in an international exchange program were subjected to prejudice. These students described incidents of attacks, physical heckling, and verbal abuse that ruined their time studying in India.
The Gujarat High Court severely breached academic integrity in March by condemning the university’s management for admitting 38 ineligible students, further undermining the university’s reputation.
The institution was ordered by the court to reimburse each aggrieved student the full amount of Rs 10 lakh, including interest and damages, within a fortnight. This was a decisive action. The university’s Registrar was also ordered to submit an affidavit and was under investigation for possible perjury in this instance.
