The daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Kavitha, was taken into jail by the Enforcement Department last Thursday and will remain there until March 23.
The Enforcement Directorate claimed on Monday that K Kavitha, the head of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), paid ₹100 crore to the leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) through a plot involving prominent figures like Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.
“Kavitha along with others “conspired with the top leaders of AAP including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia for receiving favors in the Delhi excise policy-formulation and execution,” according to an ED statement.
She contributed ₹100 crore to the AAP leaders in return for these favors, the agency said.
The daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is being held by the Enforcement Department (ED) until March 23 after being arrested last week. In a statement, the ED claimed that “a continuous stream of illegal funds in the form of kickback from the wholesalers was generated for the AAP” as a result of “corruption and conspiracy” in the development and execution of the Delhi excise policy.
The 45-year-old BRS leader and his associates were accused by the ED of trying to recoup the criminal funds that had been paid in advance to the AAP and of continuing to profit from the conspiracy as a whole.
The special Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) court was informed by the ED that Kavitha was “one of the kingpins, a key conspirator and beneficiary of the Delhi excise policy scam” when they were requesting remand of the BRS MLC.
Kavitha had previously claimed that she had done nothing wrong and said that the BJP was unable to obtain a “backdoor entry” into Telangana, thus the Centre was “using” the ED. The BJP is allegedly employing the ED and CBI as its “goons” to eliminate political rivals, according to the AAP.
Since the filing of a case in 2022, the agency claimed to have searched 245 places nationwide and to have detained 15 people, including Manish Sisodia, the head of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and a former deputy chief minister of Delhi, Sanjay Singh, the AAP leader, and a few liquor merchants.
