During Bangladesh’s trophy ceremony, Mushfiqur Rahim made fun of Sri Lanka by wearing a helmet.
The drama from the ICC 2023 ODI World Cup has carried over into Sri Lanka’s current tour of Bangladesh, even though it has been more than four months after the event. In their pursuit of 236 against Sri Lanka, veteran Mushfiqur Rahim showed his resilience and expertise by leading Bangladesh to 237/6 in 40.2 overs. Monday in Chittagong saw the hosts secure a series-clinching 2-1 victory with to an unbeaten 37 from 36 balls from the veteran.
After the trophy was presented, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto of Bangladesh collected the cricket team for a team photo, setting the trophy down in front of the board. Mushfiqur entered the room while carrying his helmet and showed it to his comrades, who clapped and laughed before he removed it.
The celebration centered around the contentious timed-out incident that occurred during Bangladesh’s 2023 World Cup match against Sri Lanka, in which Angelo Mathews became the first player to leave the game in that manner in the history of international cricket. Due to a helmet problem, the Sri Lankan all-rounder ran out of time to begin his innings before taking a hit.
The tourists celebrated Sri Lanka’s victory in the T20I series by flashing an imaginary watch on their wrists. Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh at the time, didn’t handle it well. “There is nothing to handle aggressively when it comes to this,” he stated in a statement following the game. They still haven’t moved on from the timed dismissal, in my opinion. Since we did not break any cricket rules, they should let go and remain in the here and now. Although we are not concerned, I believe they are making a big deal out of it.”
