Chennai Super Kings revealed in a statement that MS Dhoni was the one who gave Ruturaj Gaikwad the captaincy of CSK prior to the 2024 Indian Premier League.
Shortly after Rututraj Gaikwad was named the new captain of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) by the IPL’s X handle, the team issued an official announcement. According to CSK, MS Dhoni, who has led CSK to five IPL victories (sharing the most with Rohit Sharma), made the decision to give Ruturaj the captaincy. A day before the opening match of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) between reigning champion Chennai Knight Riders (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at MA Chidambaram Stadium, there is a huge news.
Shortly after posting a photo of all the captains posing with the IPL trophy, the IPL wrote on X, “Presenting Chennai Super Kings Captain – Ruturaj Gaikwad.”
CSK will begin an IPL season without Dhoni as their official captain for just the second time. The first instance of it occurred in the 2022 Indian Premier League, when Dhoni took Ravindra Jadeja’s place as captain of CSK in the middle of the season after the team had a terrible start.
This year’s IPL will mark the second time that Dhoni has played the entire season just as a player, provided Ruturaj stays healthy and the CSK administration does not change their attitude, like they did with Jadeja. Prior to Steve Smith being selected as the Rising Super Giants’ 2017 IPL captain, he only ever appeared as a keeper-batter. Notably, the team participated in two IPL seasons (in 2016 and 2017) with the Gujarat Lions while CSK and the Rajasthan Royals were barred from the competition.
