KPTCL intends to build an underground PPP substation in Bengaluru to expand the transmission network.

KPTCL will lease the land above the substation to a private party that can establish real estate assets for a period of 35 years as part of the project.

Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. (KPTCL) intends to upgrade its current Air Insulated Substations (AIS) to Gas Insulated Substations (GIS) using Public Private Partnership (PPP) model in order to expand its transmission network and meet Bengaluru’s increasing demand for electricity.

Bengaluru currently has 22 GIS and 149 AIS. KPTCL will take up a handful of the 149 AIS for redesign and development. First, a prototype project at the Anand Rao Circle substation is being prepared. In the city’s first of its kind project, KPTCL intends to subterranean the substation, which spans five acres.
